Beaverbrook - Ottawa Real Estate

Beaverbrook is one of the original neighbourhoods in the former city of Kanata. Located in the south east corner of the community, its major thoroughfares are Teron Road, Beaverbrook Road, and Campeau Road to the south. Of the substantial amounts of parks in the greater Kanata area, Lytle, Gow, Alice Wilson Woods, and Beaverbrook Park are all close at hand. In addition, the Kanata Golf and Country club is just a few minutes away.

The area was heavily agricultural until the 1960’s when Bill Teron, a developer and urban planner bought 4000 acres of rural land and began to build his interpretation of a model community. The development grew into several smaller new neighbourhoods born out of budding developments, and began to include plans for industrial development, namely Ontario Hydro’s plan to create a facility that could expand along with the community. By 1978, Kanata was formally incorporated as a city, and continued its rapid expansion well into the 1980’s. By the late 1990’s Kanata had become a hub for technology companies where they continue to thrive and provide jobs for thousands of Ontarians. Upon recent amalgamation with the city of Ottawa, Kanata still maintains a distinct identity and charm.

Well known for its beautiful landscapes and well planned communities, Beaverbrook is no exception. In addition to being the home of many notable buildings and institutions, it is also home to multiple recreational complexes, including sailing and yacht clubs, multiple golf courses, equestrian sports, and a wealth of skiing, hiking and cycling trails.

With its independent history, Kanata offers more amenities than one could imagine. The Kanata Recreation complex, multiple schools, churches, parks and community centres complement the vast shopping and restaurants throughout the suburb. The Kanata Centrum power centre and adjacent developments make up Ottawa’s third largest shopping centre. Also, the AMC Kanata Theatre complex is the largest in all of Ottawa. All of these amenities are close at hand, since recent expansion of the OC Transpo routes service Kanata’s centre and most neighbourhoods. With the rapidly growing community of Stittsville to its south, Kanata fields substantial out of town traffic which contributes to its exceptional economy and welcoming character.
